Slurp at the Kirk was named, conceptualised and designed by Custom Lane resident Jaco Justice of Ja!Coco! Maximal Design Studio.

Designed ‘head to paw’ by Custom Lane resident Jaco Justice (Ja!Coco!), Slurp at the Kirk is a Japanese-owned restaurant and bar in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town.

Located opposite the globally famous Greyfriar’s Bobby on Candlemaker Row, the three-storied, 400-year-old property received a full refurbishment in the summer of 2018.

Ja!Coco! looked to fellow Custom Lane resident, artist Juli Bolaños-Durman to create a bespoke wallpaper.

Spanning three floors, the resulting pattern’s narrative draws on Asian influence without treading into Far Eastern cliché.

Using my weaker drawing hand, bold and playful brush gestures were rhythmically created.. and along with the block colours and detailed overlays, we hope to invite an inquisitive wonder to the surface.
