TATL are delighted to welcome Ffion and Steven Blench for the fourth talk of Season 2.

Ffion and Steven root their practice in the rich history and traditions of plain and decorative plasterwork. Together as Chalk Plaster their work encompasses both historic restoration and contemporary design. Historical research into the traditional production and use of plastering materials provides a basis for their playful explorations in clay, lime, and gypsum.

Since establishing their own plastering business in 2016, Ffion and Steven have undertaken an eclectic range of projects including; the restoration of the Adam Dome at General Register House, Edinburgh; the design of a contemporary facade for Konishi Gaffney Architects; produced furniture for Vacheron Constantin; created contemporary art works for KPMG and Johnnie Walker; and written a consultation paper investigating the composition and significance of historic plaster finishes at Glasgow School of Art.

The TATL team look forward to welcoming you.

ABOUT TALKS AT THE LANE

TALKS AT THE LANE is an eclectic and informative series of lectures and conversations around the themes of design and making, curated and supported by Custom Lane residents.

TATL aim to provide engaging and lively discussions that explore what motivates our speakers to create, and the influences behind their practice.

Season 2 will focus on material by engaging with designers and makers whose practice is concerned with the use of sustainable materials, their practical application and cultural meaning.
