Opened in November 2025, Brown’s of Leith sits within the former George Brown & Sons Engineering Works on The Shore. For over 130 years the building was home to engineers and metalworkers and remains deeply rooted in Leith’s industrial history.
Brown’s of Leith brings together independent food and drink partners alongside shared spaces, with future phases accommodating artists, architects and creative practitioners.
As part of the wider Custom Lane ecosystem, it supports collaboration, shared knowledge and a growing community shaped through use over time. Haze, Shuck Bar by ShrimpWreck, Civerinos and Woven form the first phase, with a bakery and workshop in development.
Open Thursday to Sunday, 8am–8pm, the building holds spaces for eating, drinking and pause, where food, making and art unfold within retained industrial fabric overlooking the Water of Leith.

The upper floors of Brown’s of Leith house a small number of resident studios. Hayley McCrirrick works with textiles and material-led processes, alongside jewellers Gina Burgess and Madeleine Holloway, whose practices are shaped through hand skill, drawing and careful making. Together, they continue the building’s long relationship with craft and material work.

From the makers of Timberyard and Montrose, this is an all-day venue designed to blur the lines between morning coffee and evening wine. Haze will serve a carefully curated menu of small plates, inspired by some of Europe’s best wine bars, featuring cheese, cured meats and tinned fish, alongside wines, spirits, soft drinks and speciality coffee.

At Brown’s of Leith, Shrimpwreck opens a Shuck Bar centred on Scottish oysters and local seafood, carrying forward the same street-food spirit, sense of community and respect for produce.

Founded in Edinburgh, Civerinos is an East Coast–inspired pizza brand known for its handmade dough and bold flavours. What began as a small, family-run operation has grown into a much-loved name, shaped by American pizza traditions and a confidence in doing things properly, simply and well.
At Brown’s of Leith, Civerinos opens a new chapter with a menu dedicated to New Haven–style pizza. Long-fermented dough, thin blistered crusts and a distinctive smoky char sit at the centre of the offering, bringing a relaxed, come-as-you-are energy into one of Leith’s historic social spaces. It’s pizza made with care, meant for sharing, gathering and returning to.
