Shore Leave, an occasional series of intimate performances by musicians from near and far at Brown’s of Leith, brought by Aidan O’Rourke and Tim Taylor.

Tall ships once pitched up at the shore. Sailors dove into the dock. Seeking the shanties, seeking the sounds, seeking the joys of landfall. Sailors on shore leave, intent no repent. The ghosts of the sailors remain.

For our first night, they welcome, we welcome, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh from across the Irish Sea, with his 10-string Hardanger d’Amore.

Caoimhín is composer and performer. He has played the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall. He writes and performs his own material for his unique instrument and writes code for improvising with live electronics. He has performed with Laurie Anderson, Jim O’Rourke and Bill Frisell, and appears as guest soloist with the New York ensemble Contemporaneous. With award-winning group The Gloaming and Mick O’Brien, Brendan Begley and others, he has recorded widely in traditional Irish music.
