Weekend Pop Up Exhibition showing Contemporary design in linen and flax fibre from Scotland and our nearest European linen neighbours, drawing on our rich industrial...

In 2018, Our Linen Stories celebrated contemporary design and sustainability, exploring key locations with important links to flax and linen in Scotland and highlighting historic connections, while gathering local linen stories as it toured.

These stories now join new objects and themes for the pop-up revisit exhibition at Custom Lane under the banner Migration and Maritime Cultures: Leith and Our Linen Stories.

Y/Our Linen Stories Leith presents the first view of a brand-new textile woven in Scotland by a Leither. The exhibition includes a projection of last year’s event, the Edinburgh City Maritime Heritage box, on loan from City of Edinburgh Council, and a maritime display from SS Explorer. The exhibition supports COLOURS, an innovative charity which offers refugees a voice through art and documentary.

Saturday 25th | Rosemary Taylor // Photo Booth Project
Y/Our Linen Stories welcomes visual artist Rosemary Taylor’s photo-booth project, capturing images of working women’s hands.

Sunday 26th | Walk by Design // Migration and Maritime Cultures
A guided walk around Leith begins at 2:30pm with a rousing choral start thanks to the Newhaven Community Choir. This new Walk by Design has been designed in collaboration with artist-storyteller Jan Bee Brown.
