Our talk series launches with Eilidh Izat and Jack Arundell of IZAT ARUNDELL, as they discuss the Porteous’ Studio project alongside collaborators Namon Gaston, Peter Holmes of Be Seated and Richard Anstice of 56 North Kitchens.
Porteous’ Studio is a simple, beautifully formed holiday retreat curated by Eilidh and Jack, in Edinburgh’s historic Grassmarket.
Jack and Eilidh are a young couple who share an appreciation of quiet, considered architecture, craft and food. Their shared joy in discovering beautiful places here in Scotland and around the world gave rise to a desire to create a holiday retreat and creative space in their home town of Edinburgh.
Porteous’ Studio is the couple’s first project together and marks the beginning of a small design practice, IZAT ARUNDELL, which encompasses architecture, craft and food. With the idea of collaboration running through the design and build, Jack and Eilidh admirably gave each of these local, talented makers room to have their own input, whilst following the design aesthetics of the studio.
Cabinet-maker Namon Gaston designed and crafted the furniture within the space, with Peter Holmes providing the upholstery. The team is completed by Richard Anstice who worked on the design and build of the Studio’s bespoke kitchen and the bedroom’s partition screen.
Join us to learn how the team navigated this collaborative process to bring Porteous’ Studio to completion.
Although Porteous’ Studio is mainly utilised as a residential space, Jack and Eilidh also plan a series of small events and supper clubs throughout the seasons to explore ideas and to share the studio with fellow designers, craftspeople and thinkers.
The Studio’s supper club team will provide a light offering of food and refreshments tailored to the evening.
A donation toward the supper is suggested and can be made at reception on the evening.
Ticket are £5 / Free for members, and can be booked through our Eventbrite page here.
